Special to The Record

G. Michael Strock, a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish and historiographer and archivist for the Diocese of Florida has received the Canon John W. Davis Award in recognition of distinguished service to"the ministries of Ecclesiastical History and Archives."

Strock is credited for not only serving on the board of the NEHA but also for conducting workshops and contributing articles and reviewing books for the The Historiographer. He was so successful in hosting NEHA"s annual meeting and conference when it was in St. Augustine in 1999 that he has served as conference coordinator to assist the planners of future conferences ever since.

And while a major contribution to the organization was his work on Archives for Congregations, a booklet that has proved invaluable to parish archivists Strock is also noted as a mentor to new members of the National Episcopal Historians and Archivists organization.

Strock, a native of Wauwatosa, WI, worked in the U.S. Park Service for 31 years after receiving his bachelor"s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master"s in history from DePaul University. Early in his career with the U.S. Park Service he was stationed at Fort Caroline in Jacksonville and the at Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. He continued on to many parks around the country but when he retired he and his wife, Melinda, returned to St. Augustine.
